What’s happening in October?

Now in Istanbul

The beginning of this autumn 2016 in Istanbul will be rich in culture, a lot of festivals will be organized throughout the month of October, including the Akbank Jazz Festival, the coffee festival, the film festival and much more … In order to not miss anything here is the detailed program of the events of the upcoming days:


October 1 – Jehan Barbur: the Turkish pop/jazz singer of Lebanese descent singing both in Turkish and Arabic and in English will be in concert at the Kadiköyshane

October 1 – Rock Off: the rock festival held at the Volkswagen Arena hosts the Duman group, a very famous rock band also known in Turkey for their engaged texts, and also the guitarist and singer of alternative rock Ceylan Ertem.

October 1 – Ilhan Erşahin: often seen as one of the best Turkish saxophonist, Ilhan Ersahin is also an ambassador of jazz in the world, he has two jazz clubs, Nublu, one in New York and one in Istanbul. He will be in concert in Babylon with his musician friends to play the Istanbul Sessions.

October 2 – Tim Burgess: the British musician and composer also known for being the leader of the alternative rock band “The Charlatans” will be on stage at the outdoor theater Uniq.

October 6 – Lucy Rose: the British singer-songwriter of indie folk will be at Babylon within the jazz festival organized by the Garanti Bank.

October 7 – Carlton J Smith: the american Soul and R&B singer will be at Eataly, a huge complex dedicated to Italian gastronomy at the Zorlu Center.

October 7 – Kwabs presented by Nights By You: the singer Kwabs, known for his hit Walk having reached the top positions of the sales in Europe in 2014, will be at Babylon.

October 8 – Athena : Athena is one of the most famous Turkish rock band, they will be on the scene of the Dorock XL for a concert not to be missed!

October 9 – Sen Öyle Sunday: like every Sunday night from 22:30, Taksim’s cabaret Hayal Kahvesi offers live music and DJs sets until late at night. We advise it to you if you wish to discover some new local artists.

October 11 – Teoman: the charmer of the Turkish pop/rock music, Teoman, will be in concert on the campus of the University of Sabanci.

October 12 – Charenee Wade: the Brooklyn native jazz artist will be at The Seed, the concert hall of the beautiful Sabancı Museum as part of the Jazz Festival organized by Akbank.

October 13 – Babazula: the psychedelic rock group with Turkish traditional music influences will be at the IF performance Hall.

October 13 – Erik Truffaz:  the French prodigy jazz trumpeter Erik Truffaz be at Babylon for a performance not to be missed!

October 14 – Stefano Battaglia: the Italian classical pianist will be at Akbank Sanat as part of the Jazz Festival.


October 14 – Theo Croker followed by Poldoore: Theo Croker is an American jazz trumpeter and singer,he will be followed by Poldoore, a Belgian DJ playing music with hip-hop and trip-hop influences. At Babylon.

October 15 – Ferit Odman: the respected Turkish jazz percussionist, Ferit Odman, will be performing at Caddebostan Kültür Merkezi.

October 15 – Nouvelle Vague: the French musicians cleverly mixing the rebel side of punk rock and intellectual depth of the new wave with the glamor and joy of bossa nova will be in concert at Babylon.

October 15 – MFÖ: the deans of the Turkish rock with million albums sold will be in concert at the outdoor theater Harbiye Cemil Topuzlu.

October 16 – Paolo Fresu & Omar Sosa: mixing their Italian and Cuban origins, these two renowned musicians are exploring new musical and cultural boundaries for a dazzling result. At the CRR Concert Hall.

October 16 – Kenan Doğulu: the star of Turkish pop, Kenan Doğulu, will be in concert at the outdoor theater Harbiye Cemil Topuzlu

October 17 – Masatoshi Fujita: the Japanese jazzman will be on the scene of the Akbank Sanat as part of the Istanbul Jazz Festival.

October 18 & 19 – Ray Blue Band: the American jazzmen band with driving rhythms will be at the Nardis Jazz Club two nights in a row.

October 19 – Tony Allen: the drummer, songwriter and pioneer of Nigerian Afrobeat is in concert at Babylon.

October 19 – Ron Carter: the American jazz bassist is in representation at the Zorlu Center PSM, the unique sound of his music and his famous glissando made him a legendary figure in jazz as well as a very asked musician .

October 21 – Imany: the French singer known worldwide of soul, folk and blues will be at the Volkswagen Arena for a colorful representation.

October 21 – Saul Williams: the poet, actor, writer and American rapper is at Babylon to mix poetry and hip-hop.

October 21 – 25 Years of Drum and Bass Parties: lOne of the leading figures of the drum & bass scene, the legendary duo Fabio and Grooverider will be at the Zorlu Center PSM accompanied by other great names in drum and bass as Dillinja, Total Science, 2shy and Five Alive.

October 21 – Peyk : the very talented Turkish singer of hip-hop / reggae is at the Hayal Kahvesi.

October 26 – Night Walks: the Kadikoy district organizes a jazz festival in the streets and institutions of the neighborhood in the evening of October 26. No fewer than 20 concerts are planned with local and international artists and some great names in the industry. For more informations click here.

October 28 & 29 – Avishai Cohen: the bassist of Israeli jazz, but also songwriter and frequently being in Istanbul will be at the Salon IKSV. 

October 28 – Xinobi: the talented Portuguese DJ will be performing at Babylon


From October 1 to October 9 – Cirque du Soleil : Varekai : 

Varekai is a show created by Cirque du Soleil, the first performance was in 2002 in Montreal. Varekai means “regardless of place” in Romanian, and the show is a tribute to the nomadic spirit. The story of Varekai is inspired by the Greek myth of Icarus, it begins when a young man falls from the sky, parachuted into a magical and mysterious forest. They will be at the Ülker Sport Arena from 1st to 9th of October as part of their international tour.


October 1 & 2 octobre – Burger Festival: the Hellmann sauces brand presents the burger festival at the Zorlu Center the first weekend of October. On the menu; more than 20 different institutions will be there for making you taste their hamburgers, workshops, fries, drinks stalls and concerts all day.

Until October 6 – International Film Festival on the theme “crime and punishment”: the 6th edition of Crime & Punishment (Suç & Ceza) Film Festival, organized by the Law Faculty of Istanbul will take place at the beginning of the month.The theme this year is “poverty” and films will be presented at the Atlas Beyoğlu and Ortaköy Feriye theaters. In addition to film screenings, discussions on film and justice, exhibitions and workshops will be among the facilities of the Festival. For more information on the program click here.

From October 6 to 9 – Istanbul Coffee Festival: the Istanbul Coffee Festival is held from October 6 to 9 at the  Küçükçiftlik Park, this is an opportunity for caffeine lovers to taste a lots of new products from around the world, but also to attend workshops, enjoy original dishes, listen to music and attend exhibitions around the coffee theme. October 8 – Patisserie day: the Istanbul’s Palace of France celebrates patisserie and bakery by inviting the time of a day some French pastry chefs, bakeries and restaurants of Istanbul. Turkish and French entrepreneurs, as well as consular representatives will also participate in this Patisserie and Bakery day, serving the best of French artisan tastes accompanied by cold drinks and music.The event also aims to become a networking platform for professionals.For more information click here.

October 7 to October 16 – Film Ekimi: organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts, the fifteenth edition of this festival Filmekimi will be sponsored by FreeZone, The festival aims to bring together film enthusiasts with the screening of international and local films. This edition of Filmekimi will project once again many films from prestigious international festivals that have received numerous awards, like recent works of directors such as Ken Loach, Asghar Farhadi, Jim Jarmusch, Park Chan-wook, Paul Verhoeven, Todd Solondz and Pedro Almodovar, as well as those of young writers and directors. Artists in their time – Until December 31 2016 at the Istanbul Modern:
The exhibition “Artists in their time” deals with the way artists put their work and themselves in a spacetime frame. The starting point of the exhibition is the quote from Turkish artist Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar, “I am neither in time nor completely outside of it”. His views on time highlight the relationship that artists have on the past, the present and the future. The exhibition brings together works of different regions, periods and disciplines. The themes of the exhibition are abstract art, feminist approaches, urban culture, stories of Istanbul lives, non-violence, the search for identity, the concept of metropolis and an understanding of Anatolian peoples. At the Istanbul Modern.

Watch a football match in Istanbul is an experience not to be missed, the atmosphere in the stadiums is often explosive while remaining friendly. Here are the games that we recommend in October 2016 in Istanbul:

October 9 – Color Sky 5k Istanbul :

Also called the color race, Color Sky 5k is a running parcours of 5 km on the banks of Kadikoy in which everyone can participate, the goal is not just athletic performance, it is also a way to have fun with family and friends as participants are being sprayed with paint every kilometer. Revenues for the race will be donated to charity, find out more on: www.colorsky5k.com
