What to do, what to see in September in Istanbul?
Vacations are over and locals are back to the city, this month is going to be full of events with concerts, exhibitions and festivals, but also and especially with the 15th Istanbul Contemporary Art Biennale and the Euro Basketball that will be played until September 17. Find below all the program of cultural events of this month of September 2017 in Istanbul:
September 6, 9 & 11 – Tarkan: the Turkish pop star known internationally will be performing at the Harbiye Cemil Topuzlu open air theater.
September 8 – Hayko Çepkin: the Turkish alternative metal singer with Armenian origins and a surprising look will be in concert at Dorock XL.
September 9 – Sleep is commercial: the electro beach of the north of Istanbul, Suma Beach, organizes this weekend a festival (Sleep is commercial) with international and Turkish DJs. Find all the schedule and line up here: facebook.com/SumaBeach.
September 9 – Babylon Sound Garden: the Babylon concert hall organizes its last festival of the summer on its beach of Kilyos, on the menu of the Sound Garden you will find among others: Anne Marie, Gorgon City, The Drums, Kadebostany and many more… Find all the festival infos on babylonsoundgarden.com.
September 11, 12 & 13 – International Clarinet Festival: the Zorlu PSM is organizing a clarinet festival over three days with the biggest names in sectors such as the New York Gypsies All Stars, Goran Bregovic and many more. More details on www.zorlupsm.com.
September 13 – Baba Zula: the Turkish psychedelic rock band is on the stage of the If Performance Hall of Beşiktaş.
September 15 – Igudesman & Joo: Igudesman & Joo is a duet composed of classical musicians Aleksey Igudesman et Richard Hyung-ki Joo, whose shows combine comedy with classical music and popular culture. They will be on stage at the Aya Irini Churche of the Topkapı Museum.
September 15 – Season closing: the new electronic music beach of Istanbul, Kafes, having welcomed during the summer some big names like Adana Twins, Dixon, Solomun and many more, closes its door for 2017. September 15 – The Magician: the Belgian DJ whom you know surely thanks to his remix of Lykke Li’s “I Follow Rivers” will be mixing at the Zorlu PSM.
September 15 – Azealia Banks: the international rap star, New Yorker Azealia Banks, will be performing at Garaj. Not to be missed!
September 19 – Adamlar, Sattas, Hey Douglas: the campus of the Boğaziçi University opens its doors and transforms itself into a space of life and concerts, on the menu you will find many rock bands and local electronic musicians like Adamlar, Sattaş or Hey Douglas.
September 21 & 22 – Nouvelle Vague: the French musicians skillfully mix the rebellious side of punk rock and the intellectual depth of the new wave with the glamor and the joy of the bossa nova. They will be in concert at Babylon.
September 23 & 24 septembre – A Wa: the Israeli group composed of three sisters Tair, Liron and Tagel Haim is mixing Yemeni traditional music with hip-hop and electronic music. At Babylon.
September 22 – Hey Douglas: the electronic music group mixing Turkish music with more modern beats is at the If Performance Hall of Beşiktaş, we recommend it!
September 23 – Tom Odell: the new British star of indie rock, known especially for his single”Another Love” is in concert at the Zorlu PSM.
September 27 – Jay Jay Johanson: the Swedish performer is doing a difficult to classify music evolving between jazz, trip hop and dance will be in representation at the If Performance Hall.
September – MFÖ: the deans of Turkish rock to the millions of albums sold will be performing at the open air theater Harbiye Cemil Topuzlu.
September 27 – Michael Kiwanuka: the British rocker frequently compared to Bill Withers or Otis Redding will be at the Zorlu PSM.
September 29 – Ceza: the rapper is a figure in the small world of the Turkish rap, he will be performing at the Zorlu PSM.
September 30 – Free Flow Festival: it is the first festival dedicated to hip-hop, mixing Turkish and international rappers at the Küçükçiftlik Festival. For more information: www.freeflowfest.com.
15TH BIENNIAL OF ISTANBUL
From September 16 to November 12 2017: the Istanbul Biennale is an important event in the world of contemporary art. Every two years the city lives at the artistic hour for a month and the works are exhibited in many venues of the city center; hangars, museums, artists studios and many others… This new edition entitled “A good neighbor” will address many notions related to the intimate sphere, and particularly to the habitat.The Palais de France and the French Institute will host the exhibition “Flâneuses” bringing together the works of five Turkish artists who have benefited from the artistic residency program of the Cité des Arts in Paris: Aslı Çavuşoğlu, İnci Furni, Yasemin Özcan, İz Öztat & Zişan and Güneş Terkol. September 16 &17 – Gastro Entertainment Show:

From September 14 to September 17 – GameX:

September 17 – Burn Istanbul Rooftop Festival 2017:
As every year in early fall, the energy drink brand Burn organizes the Istanbul rooftops festival with on the menu some concerts, workshops, yoga etc. The festival is held on the many rooftops of the Beyoğlu area such as the Klein Garten, the George Galata, Izaka or the Swiss Otel. Many DJs and musicians will be present as Hey Douglas, J.Bernart, Mercan Dede, world acclaimed saxophonist Ilhan Erşahin. September 30 and October 1st – Hellmann’s Burger Festival:

Until September 17 – Eurobasket: the European Basketball Cup is currently playing in Turkey, amongst the favorites there are Spain, France and maybe (hopefully), Turkey, playing at home.

Watch a football match in Istanbul is an experience not to be missed, the atmosphere of the stadiums is often explosive while remaining friendly.
