What to do this February in Istanbul?
Here is a short summary of the things to do in February 2018 in Istanbul, between the many concerts, festivals, exhibitions and sports, there is something for please everyone. Here is the program:
February 1 – Moshen Namjoo: the Iranian singer whom the New York Times nicknamed “Bob Dylan of Iran” and whose music was influenced by the blues, rock as well as the folk of his homeland will be at the Zorlu Center PSM.
February 2 – Einmusik Live: the German electronic music DJ with the mysterious and captivating style will be in Turkey at the Hypnos Hall, the new electro shed in Istanbul has the capacity of more than 3,000 people.
February 3 – Duman: the rock band with millions of albums sold and engaged and swinging music (even if you don’t understand Turkish), will be on the stage of the Zorlu Center PSM.
February 3 – The Avener: the famous French DJ from Nice, known worldwide for his single “Fade Out Lines” will be at the IF Beşiktaş.
February 4 – Rap Festival Part 1: the beautiful concert hall of Nevizade, the Sanat Performance Sahnesi, (which also has a restaurant and a wine cellar), this evening offers a festival of hip-hop with many local artists in vogue of the moment.
February 5&6 – Ludovico Einaudi: the Italian composer and pianist whose piano pieces are famous for their melodies, and who composed several film scores like “Intouchables”, “This Is England”, “Mommy” or even ads for brands like Sony, Orange or Lancôme, will be on the scene of the Zorlu Center PSM for a concert not to be missed!
February 7&8 – King Krule: the rapper, musician and British producer will be in concert at the Salon IKSV as part of the Garanti Jazz Festival.
February 7 – Pamela: the Turkish pop / rock singer, a star with punk influenced music, will be in concert at the Moda Kayıkhane.
February 7 – Jakuzi: the Turkish group of nu-disco / indie-rock, with the style comparable to the English of Metronomy, is in concert at Babylon.
February 8 – Ezhel: the new star of Turkish rap, the very young Ezhel is in concert at the Sanat Performance Sahnesi.
February 10 – Laneth bir gece: this evening is a tribute to the 90s cult fanzine, Laneth, in which the Turkish rock diva Şebnem Ferah made her first appearance on the cover, the only ska group in Turkey, Athena, gave their first interview, which brought together young people who gave their hearts to hard metal from all over the country at the time when mobile phones or the Internet had not still been invented. The Salon IKSV offers the opportunity to all metal fans to discover local rising bands.
February 12 – Bizim Havalarımız: conductor Zafer Gündoğdu, accompanied by his musicians, pays homage to singer Neriman Tüfekçi at the CRR Concert Hall.
February 13 – Xuefei Yang: the Chinese guitar virtuoso is in concert at The Seeds, the concert hall of the magnificent Sakip Sabancı museum on the banks of the Bosphorus.
February 14 – Evrecan Gündüz & Eda Baba: the rising star of Turkish indie-pop, Evrecan Gündüz, will be accompanied by Eda Baba, a popular singer at the moment. At the IF Beşiktaş.
February 15&16 – Micatone: the German nu-jazz band is in concert at the Moda Kayıkhane.
February 16&17 – Russian Philharmonic Orchestra of St. Petersburg: world-renowned, the oldest Russian symphony orchestra celebrating its 135 th anniversary is invited at the TIM Show Center Maslak.
February 16 – Hey Douglas: the Turkish electronic music group mixing modern sounds with other more traditional Turkish ones, is at the IF Beşiktaş.
February 16 – We Luv Techno: the Zorlu Center PSM organizes a techno party, with 3 DJs from three different backgrounds, Drunken Kong, Mabbas and Cisetta.
February 17 – Kenan Doğulu: Turkish pop star Kenan Doğulu is in concert at the Jolly Joker of the Vadistanbul.
February 17 – Ilario Alicante: the German DJ of Italian origin will mix at the Hypnos Hall,the new big electro club of Istanbul.
February 19 – Leipzig Quartet: founded in 1988, the Leipzig String Quartet is now recognized as one of the most exciting string quartets on the international chamber music scene. In 2002 the New York Times wrote: “If there is a Leipzig sound, that’s it!” The quartet will be in concert at the Grand Pera.
February 20 – Blaze Bayley Acoustic: the British is the former singer of the world-famous hard metal band, Iron Maiden. He will be at the Moda Kayıkhane to play an acoustic version of his best songs.
February 21 – Minimalismus + Martin Kohlstedt: the German experimental pianist Martin Kohlstedt will be accompanied by the Turkish Minimalismus at the Salon IKSV.
February 22 – BİPO & Borusan Quartet: the Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra Borusan (BİPO) will be accompanied by the string quartet Borusan Quartet. At the Lutfi Kırdar Anadolu Auditorium.
February 22 – Ghostpoet: the singer and British musician known by his stage name Ghostpoet, and whose debut album, Peanut Butter Blues and Melancholy Jam, was short-listed for the 2011 Mercury Award, will be performing at Babylon.
February 22 – Ceza: the veteran Turkish rappers, having a very fast rap style and being very talented in freestyle is in concert at the IF Beşiktaş.
February 22 – Trio Joubran: Trio Joubran is a trio of oud playing traditional Palestinian music. The trio consists of brothers Samir, Wissam and Adnan Joubran, from the city of Nazareth, now sharing their time between Nazareth, Ramallah and Paris. At the Salon IKSV .

February 23 – Aşk Olsun!: Babylon organizes the opening night of the film festival !F with the program of several Turkish DJs including Evrim De Evrim, Mr Sür, Cake Mosque and artist trans Şevval Kılıç. For more info: www.babylon.com.tr.
February 23 – The Rose Paint In Rose Tour: the Korean K-pop group “The Rose Paint In Rose”, having millions of fans internationally, will be in concert at the Glass Room as part of their European tour.
February 24 – Can Bonomo: the Turkish rocker of Jewish origin and having represented Turkey at Eurovision in 2012 will be in concert at the IF Beşiktaş.
February 27 – Lucerne Festival Strings: Lucerne Festival Strings is a Lucerne-based Swiss chamber music orchestra founded in 1956 by Wolfgang Schneiderhan and Rudolf Baumgartner. At the CRR Concert Hall.

From February 13 to February 25 – Blue Man Group:
The Blue Man Group is a group that you surely know, they are a group of men painted in blue formed in the late 80s and composed of Chris Wink, Matt Goldman and Philip Stanton. In their show they use music, comedy, lighting, sound, video and other technologies creating a unique show. It’s a show out of the ordinary for an audience looking for new sensations! From February 15th to 25th – 17th Independent !F Film Festival
The Istanbul International Independent Film Festival,! F, was founded in 2002 and runs every year between February and March depending of the cities. It is home to some 80,000 world-renowned film buffs and filmmakers. Dedicated to presenting the best of contemporary cinema, !F believes that the shared experience of cinema is a form of activism that has the power to connect people across physical and psychological boundaries. From January 30 to February 28 – Leonardo Da Vinci:
The greatest genius of the Renaissance arrives at Uniq Istanbul. Conceived as the most important exhibition dedicated to Leonardo Da Vinci, this international exhibition is in Istanbul as part of a world tour after the premiere of Bruges (Belgium). It took more than 10 years of study and a team of historians, graphic designers, craftspeople and engineers to create this exhibition. In addition to a hundred sketches, paintings, writing and original works of art, 100 replicas created from the original sketches of Da Vinci will also be exhibited. At Uniq Istanbul.
Until March 11, 2018 – Ai Weiwei On Porcelain:
Ai Weiwei is a contemporary artist and Chinese activist, he collaborated with Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron as artistic consultant on the Beijing National Stadium for the 2008 Olympics. He is at the Sakip Sabancı Museum to exhibit his porcelain works. As part of the exhibition, each stage of Ai Weiwei’s prolific journey in porcelain will be presented with his iconic works. Transferring its contemporary message through the language of traditional Chinese craftsmanship, Ai Weiwei’s artistic practice offers the viewer a perspective on the paradoxes of our time. Ai Weiwei’s works challenge viewers’ understanding of cultural, artistic and historical values. At the Sakip Sabancı Museum.
Watch a football match in Istanbul is an experience not to be missed, the atmosphere of the stadiums is often explosive while remaining friendly. This year the Turkish league has seen the arrival of many players of quality.
