NOW IN ISTANBUL
What to do this fall in Istanbul? Autumn is one of the best seasons to visit our city, it is also the opening of the cultural season with a rich program. Between concerts, exhibitions, sporting events and festivals, they are events for all tastes. Art will be waiting for you in every corner of the streets of Istanbul with the contemporary art biennial which runs until November 1, it is an event of a considerable size at the international level so do not miss it! Here is the program of the upcoming months:
September 10 – The soft moon : the American punk band will be at the Salon IKSV for the opening of the season of the beautiful concert hall of Beyoglu. You can also find a very nice new Asian fusion restaurant on the roof with a breathtaking view of the Golden Horn called Café Saigon. Perfect for a cocktail or dinner before or after the concert.
September 10 – Flight Facilities : the Australian DJ duo is in Istanbul for the opening of Babylon Bomonti, the franchise of the legendary concert hall of Istanbul: Babylon. Flight Facilities was initially known for remixing artists such as Kylie Minogue, Reggie Watts or Owl Eyes, they are known today for hits like “Crave you” or songs on the soundtrack of GTA V.
September 11 – Skrillex : the American electronic music composer and producer, surely the most famous DJ dubstep world, will be on stage at the Küçükçiftlik Park.
September 11 – Jessie J : the British singer, known worldwide for her singles “Do it like a dude” and “Price tag” is in concert at the Volkswagen-Arena.
September 11 – Lee Fields & The Expressions : sometimes nicknamed “Little JB” for his resemblance to James Brown, the soul artist strong of a 43-year career and collaborations with Martin Solveig, Kool & the Gang, and Little Royal will be on the scene of Babylon Bomonti.
September 11 – Jonathan Toubin : the DJ, writer, producer and musician will also be in concert at Babylon Bomonti just after the performance of Lee Fields & The Expressions.
September 11 – Zeytin : the group of our friend and collaborator Yunus of Reggae/Rock will be on stage for a concert at Nayah, we advise you obviously to not miss the show and discover the young new local scene. Admission is free.
September 12 – Brooklyn Funk Essentials with Hüsnü Senlendirici : the legendary collective of poets and musicians from different cultures will be at Babylon Bomonti with Hüsnü Senlendirici, the Turkish clarinet star for an evening of jazz, funk and hip-hop.
September 13 – Compass Day at the Beach : the Babylon group organizes a celebration to mark the end of summer on the beaches of the North of Istanbul. On schedule : some sun, sea and music. Several local and international DJs will take turns throughout the day. For more info: www.biletix.com.
September 16 – Nil Karaibrahimgil : the star of Turkish pop is in concert at Babylon Bomonti.
September 19 – Superga presents : People of Istanbul : this musical event brings together an eclectic selection of local and international artists such as Mark Ronson, pop Irish singer Róisín Murphy, the British R & B artists Kwabs and Kate height, hip-hop Turkish band MODE BAND XL, and ah! Kosmos. There will be a space where you can enjoy drinks, food, and activities of all kinds will be organized. In Life Park.
September 24 to 26 – Carnival Party : the cabaret/nightclub Xlarge Club organizes a big 3 nights on the row party with the theme of the Rio Carnival and some Brazilian dancers and musicians.
September 25 – Radyo Eksen Partisi : the most famous rock music radio station of Istanbul organizes an after-work party at Babylon Bomonti with their best resident DJs. On the program: ska, rock, folk and some electronic music.
September 29 to October 4 – Mama Mia : the famous internationally known musical will be on the beautiful scene of the Zorlu Center PSM. Mamma Mia’s themes are family, love and friendship around the story of the young girl trying to find her real father on her wedding day.
October 3 – Hardwell : the star DJ will be at Küçükçiftlik Park as part of his international tour “United we are.”
October 4 – CRR Symphony Orchestra : the orchestra of the CRR Concert Hall is in representation on October 4 and on October 8 it is the jazz band of the CRR that takes the stage.
October 9 – Ilan Ersahin Sessions : the jazz musician, producer and owner of the New York and Istanbul’s jazz clubs : Nublu, will be at Babylon Bomonti to to play his famous Istanbul’s Sessions. Do not miss it!
October 9 – East India Youth : the British musician of electronic music who won the Mercury Music Best Independent Album of the Year’s prize will be in concert at the Salon IKSV.
October 14 – Philippe Bernold – Patrick Gallois : London’s Mozart Players orchestra will be at the CRR Concert Hall under the direction of Patrick Gallois and Philippe Bernold.
October 15 – Lara Fabian : Belgium’s pop singer with 20 million albums sold worldwide will be performing at Zorlu Center PSM.
October 20 – Oh Land : Danish singer and composer of electronic music best known for her song “Wolf and i” is in concert at Babylon Bomonti..
October 22 – Manu Katché : the French-Ivorian drummer and singer is at the CRR Concert Hall.
October 29 – Squarepusher : British musician whose melodies are mixing drum & bass, acid house and jazz will be on stage at Babylon Bomonti.
October 31 – Rachid Taha : the Algerian singer residing in France whose music is inspired by different styles such as rai, techno, rock ‘n’ roll and punk is in concert at the Volkswagen-Arena.
4 to 9 November – Romeo and Juliet : The Musical brings Shakespeare to Istanbul’s Zorlu Center PSM early November to tell in music and dance the classic story of the hatred between the Montague and Capulet families that can not stop the love of two of their youngsters.
November 7 – André Rieu : the famous conductor and classical mainstream music violinist is accompanied in Istanbul by the John Strauss Orchestra at the Ülker sports Arena.
November 11 – Fabrizio Paterlini : Italian pianist of contemporary classical music is representation at the Salon IKSV.
November 14 – Christian Scott : the trumpet player from New Orlean will be at the Salon IKSV to play his new album based on the themes of police violence in the US, Hurricane Katrina, and the war in the Middle East.
December 19 – Axwell-Ingrosso : the two members of the Sweedish House Mafia, who are also world renowned in their solo careers will be at the Life Park for a great show!
Until November 1: Salt Water, Istanbul Biennial : considered as one of the most prestigious biennials alongside Venice, Sao Paulo and Sydney, the International Istanbul Biennial is an exhibition model that enables a dialogue between artists and the public through the works of art. The biennial will be organized this year by Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, who is an American curator and author.Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev was the Artistic Director of the 16th Sydney Biennial (revolutions-forms that rotate) and Chief Curator at Castello di Rivoli, the Contemporary Art museum of Turin. She was also the chief curator at PS1 contemporary Art Center, a subsidiary of New York’s MoMa from 1999-2001.
The theme this year is “salt water: the theory of thought forms.” This international art exhibition will present new works by over fifty international artists and professionals, including marine scientists and neuroscientists giving the fact that the theme is salt water, currents and water densities, both visible and invisible that shape and transform the poetic and political world in a city like Istanbul.
The Biennial will be held in 30 locations throughout the city, both on the European and Asian side and the Princes Islands.

Until January 10 – Zero : the Zero art movement emerged in Germany in 1957 under the influence of Heinz Mack and Otto Piene artists with the idea that art must start from scratch and upset all the rules and conventions. The group then federated several groups of international artists around concepts like op art, minimalism, kinetic art and new realism. The Sakip Sabanci Muzesi is hosting the exhibition and presents a retrospective of the ambitious phenomenon that was Zero.
Until November 28 – Louise Bourgeois, Larger than life : the exhibition hosts 58 works of the French-American artist Louise Bourgeois. Often described as a feminist artist, works by Bourgeois are asexual and address the human subjects of fear, jealousy and loneliness. Her most famous work is a sculpture of nine meters high, “Mom”, representing a giant steel spider. At the Akbank Sanat Muzesi.
Until November 29 – How did we get there? : the exhibition is held simultaneously in Salt Beyoglu and Salt Galata,, it retraces photos, videos, articles, advertisements and interviews of the period of political tension between the left and the right in Turkey, ended with a military coup in 1980 and the adoption of a new constitution still in force in 2015.
November 15 – Marathon of Istanbul : Istanbul’s marathon is the only marathon in the world taking place on two continents. In addition to the 42km race, organizers also offer runs of 15km and 10km : istanbulmarathon. October 4 – Rally Championship : Istanbul and its Tuzla circuit is hosting the FIA World Championship Rallycross RX from October 2 to 4. This event will be full of adrenaline. For speed and car lovers : www.fiaworldrallycross.com
Every day – yoga and pilates : the organization Cihangir Yoga offers over a dozen yoga and pilates classes in English every day and everywhere across the city for the price of 45 TL (13.5 euros). In a vibrant and never sleeping city like Istanbul ait can be very relaxing, but it may also be the opportunity to meet some Istanbul residents. Football : despite a season promising to be exciting with a lot international stars in the ranks of the Turkish teams (Eto in Antalya, Van Persie, Nani Fenerbahce, Galatasaray Sneijder and Podolski …) we are not able to find football tickets for the first half of the season, the Passolig system set up at the beginning of last season is so complicated that it prevents tourists to get to the stadium.
However the atmosphere of the bars is always warm,friendly and crazy! We recommend you watch a game in a bar if you are passing through our city and there is an interesting match. Here is the game schedule: tff.org
